Designer Tasers Put Spark In Women's Self-Defense
(KDKA)
It might be bright pink and girly, but this little device packs a mean punch.
The Taser C2 is the newest personal stun gun that is the hottest new trend in women's self-defense.
Taser International, the creator of Taser C2, says they believe the device, which has the ability to zap an attacker from a distance, will prompt women to purchase the Taser, instead of choosing cheaper options like pepper spray and mace.
The device runs between $300 to $350.
Officials say the personal Taser is legal in 43 states including Pennsylvania.
It can be bought right over the internet, but interested consumers have to pass a felony background check to buy the device. Right now, more than 150,000 have been sold.
Experts say the taser is designed so that once it's fired, it can be put it down. It gives the user about 30 seconds to get away if they are being attacked.
Pushing the button, experts say, sends two probes shooting up to 15 feet away. The probes have little hooks that attach themselves. When they connect, powerful electric pulses are sent directly to the nervous system, and that's when the pain kicks in.
While some police officers and women say they believe the Taser is a great tool, some are not as convinced.
"It's very big," said Sara Sangari. "I don't know if I'm walking around at night if my little purse would hold that big of a Taser."
