Concerns Grow As Scott Twp. Homes Slide Downhill

SCOTT TOWNSHIP (KDKA) ― Some homeowners in Scott Township are looking for answers from local officials as their concerns grow because their homes are sliding closer to the edge of a hillside.

Residents on Boroview Avenue say they are looking for solutions before the situation gets worse.

It was shortly after the remnants of Hurricane Ivan and Hurricane Frances moved through the area in 2004 that the hill started to head downhill toward Carnegie.

"We don't know if the house is going to go over the hillside," said resident Gladys Rambo.

"We've just been living in fear ever since this happened," added neighbor Joyce Habovic.

Some of the residents have been taking measures to halt the sliding themselves, like homemade timber retaining walls and wooden barriers.

Meanwhile, state and federal grant money is apparently drying up. Also, a meeting is scheduled for as early as today to see if more money can be found.

"We can't wait much longer," said Eileen Meyers, the Scott Township commissioner. "Every time we get a spring, every time it rains, these people worry about whether more sliding can occur. We need something done. We need something done now. We need something done yesterday."

KDKA's Ross Guidotti reports that he contacted State Senator Wayne Fontana's Office over the situation and is awaiting response.
