'Save The Music' Gives Grant To Wilkinsburg

WILKINSBURG (KDKA) ― With many schools facing financial challenges, music programs are often the first things to be cut, but a nationwide organization wants to save the music because it says music education equals brain power.

Some might call it noise, others say it's music to their ears - children taking an interest in music that some hope will become a life long passion.

VH1's Save the Music Foundation came to the Wilkinsburg School district today with a special gift. The program donated $90,000 in musical instruments to help bring music education back to Wilkinsburg.

The faces of children lit up as they received their new musical instruments. And not only is it exciting for the children, educators say music helps in other areas.

Part of today's grant also allows Wilkinsburg to hire a full time music instructor. Wilkinsburg school officials believe they were chosen for today's Save the Music Grant because of their continued fundraising and partnership with the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra.
