PennDOT Plans Another Rte. 28 Test Blast

HARMAR TOWNSHIP (KDKA) ― A test blast along Route 28 on Tuesday caused rocks to spill on all four lanes of the highway.

It wasn't the first time blasting didn't go according to plans, and now State Senator Jim Ferlo says he has an idea keep the project going and keep drivers happy.

He suggests the blasting should happen on the weekends.

PennDOT Executive Dan Cessna says he'll consider it, but the multi-million dollar contract for the work was based on allowing blasting during the week.

If the work moves to the weekend, it means more money for the contractor.

Cessna says there will probably be another test blast on Saturday, April 26. Once they see the results, they'll meet with the contractor to determine if they should allow the work to continue on weekdays.
