Officials with PennDOT say Route 28 and Freeport Road have now been reopened in both directions after crews performed another major rock blast along the unstable hillside above Route 28 this morning.
The blast set off by PennDOT's contractor was larger than last week's first major blast.
As a safety precaution, crews once again stopped traffic during the blast.
Right now, PennDOT says intermittent traffic stoppages will occur today along the southbound side of Route 28.
Officials say crews will be removing debris from the hillside.
PennDOT crews have been doing the blasting in hopes that it will help remove loose rock from the hillside, which has been falling on the roadway below.
