PennDOT: Funding Needed To Fix Route 28

Reporting

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) ―
PennDOT officials say they have come up with a solution to the frequent rock slides along Route 28; but they are missing a key factor: funding.
If PennDOT gets the money needed to do the work, they say the problem could be fixed before the end of next year.
According to the Tribune-Review, PennDOT is planning to cut away rocks along the hillside and build a protective fence.
In October, several hundred tons of boulders and debris came down the hillside, crashed into a barrier causing a tractor-trailer to overturn.
Though crews have managed to cut away the hillside in some areas, there are still other areas where rocks can be seen protruding from the hill.
When completed, the surface would be smooth similar to the hillside along route 28 between Etna and Shaler
The next step is getting the money necessary to complete the project.
Once PennDOT determines the cost to do so, local officials would head to Harrisburg to request the additional funding.
