MIDLAND (KDKA) ― A 14-year-old boy saw that his family was in need and wanted to do something about.

He says he heard about the 50 Years, 50 Families program and decided to write a letter to Roomful Express. His letter won some hearts and got something special for his family.

It's something most families can't even imagine, having nothing but each other, but Jamie Briggs and her children know what that means. They just moved into their housing plan in Midland, Beaver County.

It was Briggs' son, Marcus Hightower, who wrote to Roomful Express asking for help for his family.

His letter said in part, "My mother is a single mom, who does the best she can with what she has. My mom can no longer work because in 2006 she had a massive stroke. Her whole right side was affected. She is also blind in her right eye."

Briggs knew nothing about the letter her son had written and being a recipient came as a big surprise.

But she and her family are very happy now to have $3,000 to help them decorated their home.
