The prosecution has rested its case against Dr. Robert Boyda, Jr., an oral surgeon from Mt. Lebanon accused of molesting a number of female patients.
Last week, some of his former employees took the stand and testified they saw some strange things while they worked for him.
Sharon LaRoche worked in the Scott Township office of Dr. Boyda as a medical assistant and served in reception, assisting with surgery and managing accounts.
She testified that she quit because in her words, she saw things she didn't like, such as a recovery room incident involving a female patient under sedation.
"The main thing that put me out the door happened when I asked him to sign a paper," she said. "The IV line was shaking badly. Her hand was under his lap. His hand was over hers, guiding it underneath his lab coat."
"I was in shock," she testified. Then once he noticed her, "He said, 'Get me the gauze! Get me the gauze! She's seizing.' "
Prosecutor: "Did you see any signs that the patient was seizing?"
LaRoche: "No."
On another occasion with another patient, LaRoche says she came upon him and a female patient unexpectedly.
"I startled him. He jumped back and the girl's hand fell from between his legs. She was out of it," LaRoche testified.
Defense attorney Bill Difenderfer points out that this testimony about Dr. Boyda is general in nature and does not point to any of the 17 alleged victims.
He did not question her about her specific allegation.
Regarding those who have accused the doctor, Diffenderfer argues the effects of the anesthetic Proporfol can cause vivid sexual dreams and that the victims did not experience sexual molestation they dreamed it.
