Butler Twp. Pharmacy Robber Wanted Narcotics

BUTLER TOWNSHIP (KDKA) ― Police say a man who robbed a Butler Township pharmacy wasn't after money - he wanted narcotics.

According to police, the man walked into the Rite Aid Pharmacy at Point Plaza through the back entrance Monday evening, approached the pharmacist and demanded Oxycontin - a highly addictive pain killer.

Butler Township Police Chief Gary Garman says the man threatened to blow up the pharmacy if the pharmacist didn't give him the meds.

The pharmacist told police it appeared that the suspect walked with a limp and she never saw a weapon. However, the robber kept his hand under his shirt and was fooling with his waistband.

It's the second time this year a Butler Township pharmacy was robbed.

Just three months ago, a robber with an Ace bandage covering his face burst into the Rite Aid Pharmacy in the Greater Butler Mart at closing time. He brandished a silver revolver, forced a customer and manager back inside and took an undetermined amount of drugs.

No one was hurt.

In both Rite Aid robberies, the suspect was white, but in the Monday night stickup, the robber was described as being over six feet tall in his 30s. He was seen driving a blue 4-door Chevy Cavalier or Ford Escort west on Route 68.

In the April robbery, the suspect was said to be about 5'8" with a medium build and between 40 and 50 years old.
