Senator Regola In Court For Pre-Trial Hearing
(KDKA)
State Senator Bob Regola appeared in court this morning with his attorneys to face a pre-trial hearing.
Senator Regola is facing several charges ranging from perjury to recklessly endangering another person.
Those charges stem from the death of the Regola's neighbor, 14-year-old Louis Farrell. Investigators say Farrell died after being shot with the gun owned by Regola. After an inquest, Farrell's death was ruled a suicide.
The defense says they want District Attorney John Peck to recuse himself from the case because of statements he made to the press following the shooting death of Farrell.
Prosecutors say they charged Regola because they maintained he lied while testifying during a coroner's inquest last year.
The defense also maintains the Senator should not be charged with recklessly endangering another person because he was under no obligation to call authorities when he was informed his gun was missing.
Regola's trial is now scheduled to start in May.
