Local Red Cross Volunteers Help With Storm Relief

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) ― Red Cross volunteers from the Pittsburgh area are stepping up efforts to help those in need in the wake of Tropical Storm Hanna and as Hurricane Ike takes aim at land.

So far, 13 volunteers have been deployed to support a massive relief effort in the Gulf Coast region.

A local man, from Allison Park is flying to Orlando tomorrow.

He says volunteers are being deployed there, where the residents are being told to leave so they're not in the path of Hurricane Ike.

"We provide a very essential service to people who immediately have to leave their homes and find security and safety and receive those basic needs -- food, shelter, housing whatever they might be," said Richard Browning, a Red Cross disaster volunteer.

Browning and other volunteers will be in the region for about two weeks.
