$276 Million Powerball Ticket Sold In W. Va.
MORGANTOWN, W.Va. (KDKA/AP) ―
One of the tickets sold in West Virginia for Saturday night's Powerball drawing matched all six numbers drawn to win the huge jackpot.
Those numbers were:
6-22-42-43-47, Powerball:
16, Power Play:
2.
The player matching all five numbers and the Powerball will claim the $276.3 million jackpot.
So far, there is no official word from the people at Powerball, but neighbors in Morgantown have been buzzing over the word that someone in their community may have the winning ticket.
"I'm just amazed that it was sold here," said Morgantown resident, Elaine Eline. "That's great for the person who bought it."
Sources tell KDKA it wasn't a single person who hit it big with the Powerball jackpot.
Instead it was eight people, who are reportedly employed at the Monongalia County Sheriff's Department Tax Office.
According to West Virginia lottery officials, the winning ticket was sold last Thursday afternoon just after 5 p.m. at a limited video lottery parlor in Westover called Paula's.
KDKA attempted to confirm the story with the person who allegedly bought the winning ticket, but there was no answer at the person's home.
However, a homeowner next door told us that her neighbor informed her of the winning ticket on Sunday.
Also, the employee's daughter, told KDKA over the phone that her family got a visitor overnight informing them of the good news.
"I heard someone in Morgantown won," said Morgantown resident, Tina Dean. "I was surprised. It's pretty crazy."
The prize goes to an estimated $15 million for Wednesday.
Tickets that match the first five numbers, but miss the Powerball, win $200,000 each, and there were twelve of those.
They were sold in: Arizona, Colorado, Kentucky(2), Louisiana, Minnesota, North Carolina(2), Pennsylvania(3) and Wisconsin.
There were two Power Play Match 5 winners in the states of: Iowa and North Carolina.
Watch Wednesday's Powerball drawing just before KDKA-TV News at 11.
