Union Pres.: No Port Authority Strike Vote Set

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) ― The head of the union representing thousands of Port Authority bus and trolley drivers says there will not be a strike vote on November 23rd.

Union President Pat McMahon disputes a report in the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review that says the union will take a vote on that day.

McMahon told KDKA's Marty Griffin that the union will meet, but only to discuss its options in the current labor dispute.

Griffin: "Could one of those options possibly be your drivers walking off the job, a shutdown Nov. 1st, sir?"

McMahon: "That is not something that we are going to take a vote on. The real bottom line is here is the Port Authority now changed the rules."

Griffin: "So are you telling me that their will be no walk out Dec 1st, that it's off the table, sir?"

McMahon: "I don't believe there will be, but I don't know. I don't know."

Drivers have been working without a contract since June 30th.

Transit officials want a new contract that cuts long-term expenses, such as health care and pension payments.

Those seeking information regarding alternative transportation options in the event of a walkout should visit www.pghtransitinfo.com.

Information from pass fare reimbursement to park-and-ride accessibility to alternative transportation options are detailed at that website, along with status of negotiations, Port Authority's stances, archived news articles and frequently asked questions.
