Port Authority Rates Expected To Climb Next Year

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) ― The budget has been drafted and an increase in transit fares appears to be inevitable.

That's the word from the Port Authority's CEO.

Steve Bland says the base fare is likely to increase by 10 to 25-cents next year.

The last increase was in January 2008, when the base fare went from a $1.75 to the current $2.

Public hearings on the proposed hike are scheduled to begin next month.
