Port Authority, Drivers Urged To Agree On Report

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) ― Allegheny County Chief Executive Dan Onorato is urging the Port Authority and its union to accept a fact-finder's report.

Both sides have until Friday at midnight.

He wants both sides to agree in an effort to avoid a strike.

Onorato says Port Authority can't continue to operate under its current contract. If it does, bankruptcy is a real possibility.

The report, released two weeks ago, recommends that drivers have to be 60 years old with 30 years of experience to get healthcare after retirement.

"Whatever agreement both sides come up with, it has to address the legacy costs," says Onorato, "because we're at the point now where we won't survive."

Both sides are scheduled to meet tomorrow.

KDKA's Marty Griffin was told Port Authority drivers are unwilling to accept the fact-finder's report.
