Port Authority Workers Mull Settlement Decision
PITTSBURGH (KDKA) ―
Port Authority workers have until the end of this week to decide whether to accept or reject a fact-finder's report recommending a settlement between the labor union and management.
Both the union and Port Authority's board will meet on Friday to discuss the deal and vote on it.
If either side rejects it, state and federal mediators will be called in. It's also possible that union members could authorize a strike.
The 2,300 bus and trolley drivers and service workers represented by Amalgamated Transit Union Local 85 have been working without a contract since the end of June.
The fact-finder's recommendation includes a three percent raise for union members, but would require them to pay more for health-care.
