Gates Removed Around Point State Park
PITTSBURGH (KDKA) ―
After being closed for months, the gates have been removed around Point State Park.
The park underwent a major renovation project and had been closed last summer.
It won't officially reopen to the public until Friday - earlier than officials expected. They moved up the date after they saw good results with the newly planted lawn.
About 23 acres of the park will be open including the front where most of the renovation work has taken place as well as much of the great lawn near the fountain.
Officials told KDKA-TV in March the changes will make the park more user-friendly and more in keeping with the original vision of the park.
"It will be greener and more beautiful, also because the appointments, the benches, the lighting, the bike racks and all of the fixtures never were installed in the park, so they're of the highest quality," Lisa Schroeder, from the Riverlife Task Force, said.
Stay with KDKA for the latest developments.
