Local Residents Cleanup After Weekend Storms
WEST MIFFLIN (KDKA) ―
Severe storms tore through the area all weekend, uprooting trees and knocking down power lines all over Western Pennsylvania.
Some trees just couldn't withstand the strength of the winds that blew through West Mifflin Sunday night.
With the falling of a single tree, an entire neighborhood in West Mifflin lost power overnight.
"There was tremendous wind with it," Beverly Black of West Mifflin said. "And hard, hard driving rain. You couldn't even see."
Today, the clean-up began as power crews worked to get the lights back on. And by mid-day Monday, Duquesne Light was well on its way to getting things back to normal.
John Shumway spoke with the National Weather Service on Monday and said radar had indicated a funnel cloud in the area. NWS doesn't think that funnel cloud ever formed into a tornado, but there were definitely strong winds Sunday night that caused a lot of damage.
