Local Officials Unveil Holiday Season Plans
PITTSBURGH (KDKA) ―
The holiday season is edging closer and closer, and today city officials unveiled this year's plans to celebrate the season.
But with Light Up Night two weeks away, the area downtown which normally hosts the festivities is now crowded with construction for the North Shore Connector.
"Well, there's a lot of coordination happening right now," said Mayor Luke Ravenstahl. "With the construction there is concern about moving people around in traffic, but I can tell you that we're working very well together between the city, the County, the construction agencies and those individuals that are doing the construction."
"The Santa Spectacular will be where it typically is. I think the stage will be moved slightly," added Michael Edwards, of the Pittsburgh Downtown Partnership. "The Port Authority will have all of its stuff out of there except for the three cement towers, is my understanding, which will be fenced off and needs to stay."
Also, Macy's is gearing up for what are said to be 'phenomenal window displays.'
This year, Market Square gets a holiday face lift as lights will be added to trees in the area.
Additionally, there will be free parking at the Pittsburgh Parking Authority garages all day on Saturdays starting with black Friday through December 22nd.
Officials say the Light Up Night festivities will end with fireworks.
