PITTSBURGH (KDKA) ― Preparations are underway for a huge fireworks display to celebrate Pittsburgh's 250th birthday.

A special Pittsburgh 250 fireworks event will be held Saturday, October 4 at Point State Park and several other locations around the Golden Triangle.

Zambelli fireworks will be launched from a record 17 different positions around the city including barges, the rooftops of the USX, PPG, Two PNC, One Mellon and Fifth Avenue Place buildings and even the West End Bridge.

The fireworks display will be the largest in the history or our area.

It requires more than 25 computers to run the show and 40 professional pyrotechnicians.

The "Imagine Pittsburgh Fireworks Spectacular" display will begin at 10 p.m. and will be choreographed to a soundtrack by local artists and broadcast on KDKA Radio.
