Pittsburgh's Top Tagger Arrested, Again

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) ― Pittsburgh's self-proclaimed graffiti king is once again in trouble with the law.

Daniel Montano, 21, of Highland Park, faces more than two dozen new charges. He was arrested twice last year when he faced more than 100 similar charges.

Investigators say Montano used the names, "SPACE BOY," "BABY BOY," and "BABY ROCKS." Previously he used the tag, "MFONE," among others.

"Last May, he had 100 counts, over $600,000 and, this time, it was 25 counts, about $108,000," Detective Frank Rende, from the Pittsburgh Police Graffiti Task Force, said.

Montano was arrested at the Mattress Factory on the North Side where he was scheduled to have his work on display at an art show on Friday.

"Danny is an artist - he's different than most of them. He's actually an artist. The rest of them are vandals to us. Danny is a vandal-slash artist," Rende said.

Police say they don't know what motivates Montano to continue to deface property.
