Police Impersonators Rob Victims In Spring Garden

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) ― Two people thought police officers were pulling them over, but two impersonators pulled out guns and robbed them.

The fake cops flashed their headlights at the car in front of them in Pittsburgh's Spring Garden neighborhood early Tuesday morning.

They didn't have a siren or police lights.

When the victims pulled over, the impersonators pointed two semiautomatic guns at them, told them to get out their vehicle, put their hands on their car and frisked them.

The robbery happened right in front of a fire station.

In fact, a firefighter witnessed this and didn't think much of it because he thought it was an actual police stop.

The fake officers allegedly took $40 from one victim and $200 from the other.

They also stole their Ohio license plate.

The suspects drove a dark green Taurus.

One of the men is white, believed to be 30 years old, 5'10" with shoulder-length black hair.

The other is also white, about 30 years old, 5'8" and bald.

Police say the impersonators showed badges that they kept in their wallets.

But real police say that even officers in plain clothes will have badges around their neck or at their belt.

And even unmarked cars have flashing lights and sirens.

Police say that if you have any doubt about who's pulling you over, drive to a police station or a well-lit area and call 911 to ask for a marked car to show up.
