Pirates Support New Baseball Field For Children

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) ― The Pittsburgh Pirates have stepped up to the plate to help children reach their dreams of playing baseball.

At PNC Park, the Pittsburgh Pirates Charities announced plans to support the Miracle League of Southwestern Pennsylvania in building a new baseball field.

Miracle Field will be built in Cranberry Township and will help give every child the chance to play baseball.

The Pirates Charities is donating $200,000 and one player, Freddie Sanchez and his wife, made a $50,000 donation toward the Miracle League.

"I was born with a clubbed foot, and its something that really hits home," said Sanchez.

President of the Miracle League of Southwestern Pennsylvania, Mike Sherry says, "It brings an emotional tear to your eye to finally get to see these kids do something that otherwise they would be on the other side of the fence."
