Longtime Pirates Broadcaster Retires

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) ― The longest-tenured play-by-play announcer in the history of the Pittsburgh Pirates is retiring.

The club announced Wednesday afternoon that Lanny Frattare is stepping away from the job after 33 seasons.

He has been the voice of the Pirates on radio and TV since taking over for the legendary Bob Prince in 1976.

Frattare calls the decision "difficult and emotional," but he says in the end it was time.
