Petland Responds To Humane Society's Report

ROBINSON TWP. (KDKA) ― Chris Siva and his son, Dalton, were at the Petland Store in Robinson Town Center, in Robinson Township, where Siva bought a Mastiff puppy.

Siva, from Elkins, W. Va., says he doesn't think much of a just-released investigation from the Humane Society of the United States which is critical of the Ohio-based Petland store chain for allegedly selling puppies bred in so-called puppy mills.

According to the Humane Society, Petland doesn't tell its customers that the canines from the puppy mills but, rather it tells them they come from good breeders.

The owner of the Robinson Petland Store, Jeff Koury, tells KDKA-TV he's confident his puppies from breeders who either meet or exceed government guidelines.

Koury says his puppies are checked two or three times for breed, and health standards before they reach his store and if they don't pass the screens by individual vet checks, they are not shipped to him.

The Petland chain describes the new Humane Society report as "sensationalism at its best."
