An Allegheny County court reporter is fighting for her life after she was shot outside her home in Pittsburgh's Perry North neighborhood.
Friends say 47-year-old Cheryl Wilds had just gotten off a Port Authority bus at the corner of Perrysville Avenue and Bonvue Street with her boyfriend and was carrying groceries for Thanksgiving dinner when she was hit.
"Somebody standing behind a tree near a house in the 800-block began to fire multiple rounds - the female was struck at least once, we believe in the neck, and she collapsed here at the scene," Pittsburgh Police Lt. Kevin Kraus said.
Investigators say it's possible Wilds and her boyfriend were involved in an argument with someone just before the shooting. They don't know if Wilds was the target.
Firefighters ran to the aid of the victim after they heard the shots. They stayed with her until paramedics arrived.
This isn't the first tragedy in the Wilds family. Wilds' mother, Marmetta, and another person, were murdered in Wilkinsburg almost 15 years to the day.
The case remains unsolved.
Wilds is listed in critical condition.
