More: Sports Insider Blog | Penguins Blog

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) ― The Pittsburgh Penguins have traded the rights to pending unrestricted free agent forwards Ryan Malone and Gary Roberts to the Tampa Bay Lightning in exchange for the Dallas Stars' fourth round pick, previously obtained by Tampa Bay, in the 2009 Entry Draft.

If Tampa Bay is able to sign Malone to a contract for next season, the pick will become Tampa Bay's third round pick in the 2009 Entry Draft.

Both Malone and Roberts are scheduled to become unrestricted free agents on Tuesday.

"I want to thank both Gary Roberts and Ryan Malone for their time here. They both did incredible jobs for us on and off the ice. They made our team better," said Penguins Executive Vice President and General Manager Ray Shero. "We had an incredible run this year and both players had a great amount to do with that. Both of their times here will be remembered fondly by the Penguins and the fans. We wish them nothing but the best."
