Critics Weigh In On Pennsylvania's Smoking Ban

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) ― Restaurant owners hope their profits don't wisp away when Pennsylvania's smoking ban goes into effect.

Bars where food accounts for less than 20 percent of revenues are allowed to have smoking.

Even the smoking ban advocates say the state legislature compromised their way out of a fair and effective ban saying there are too many exemptions.

That is only one problem with the smoking ban. Enforcement falls on the public to report issues to the state health department which then turns to the Allegheny County Health Department to investigate and enforce.

First offenses will get a warning. The fines start at $250 and go up to $1,000 with both the smoker and the establishment owner subject to the fine.
