New Blvd. Of The Allies Ramp Opens In Oakland

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) ―

A new on-ramp connecting inbound traffic on Fifth Avenue to the Boulevard of the Allies in Oakland is now open.

PennDOT says the ramp will create improvements in safety and mobility by directly connecting Fifth Avenue (westbound toward downtown Pittsburgh) to the Boulevard of the Allies (Route 885).

It will eliminate and permanently close the contra-flow lane currently in use on Forbes Avenue.

Instead, motorists will now continue inbound on Fifth Avenue then enter a left turn lane that will cross the bus lane to enter the Boulevard of the Allies.

The Boulevard of the Allies Bridge is scheduled to close for replacement the evening of January 3, 2008.

A public meeting to discuss details of the closure and detours will be held at 11 a.m. on Dec. 12, 2007, in the University of Pittsburgh's Alumni Hall in the Connelly Ballroom at 4227 Fifth Avenue.

This work is part of the $29 million project expected to be completed in late 2008.
