Crews Hit Gas Line In Penn Hills

PENN HILLS (KDKA) ― Police in Penn Hills say several people were evacuated from a building after a contractor doing some drilling this afternoon hit a gas line.

Officials say a contractor drilling core samples for a new Wal-Mart hit a gas line at Frankstown Road and Robinson Boulevard.

Police tell us Petra Ministries, which is located across the street from the break, was evacuated as a precaution. Authorities say about 300 people were evacuated and taken to a local fire hall and others were taken to a Wilkinsburg church.

Crews say two valves have now been shut off. Also, officials say the evacuees will be sent home from the fire hall and the church.

No injuries were reported.
