Road Crew Rushed To Help Penn Hills Crash Victim

PENN HILLS (KDKA) ― After witnessing an accident on Allegheny River Boulevard this morning, some road crew workers rushed to the rescue of a woman trapped inside her overturned car by live electrical wires.

The accident happened just before 8am in Penn Hills when a Honda Accord struck a utility pole and overturned near the intersection with Nadine Road. The crash toppled the pole – bringing down live electrical wires on the car.

Some workers who were repairing a nearby bridge immediately rushed to the driver's aid.

"We just heard a loud boom," Dwayne Davis told KDKA, "and I seen the wires bouncing around pretty good – and looked down and seen the car rolling; and we ran down to see if we could help."

Leaving parts of the roadway charred, the wires even left a hole in the asphalt near the woman's car.

Davis, who was once of the first people to get to the woman, didn't think about the potential danger to himself.

"You don't even really think about that," said Davis.  "She was screaming for help and she thought it was on fire 'cause her legs were burning – and I think she was getting shocked."

"I just got a hold of her and tried to help her out," Davis added, "and I was getting shocked, too, so I couldn't help her get out – so I just sort of could see how her leg was caught and had her turn her leg and move and pull back a little bit and she finally got out."

The unidentified woman was taken to the hospital for treatment.

At this point, officials are not commenting on her condition.
