Fans Pack Market Square For Penguins Rally

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) ― It's a hockey night in Pittsburgh, but it is not just any hockey night.

With the first game of the Eastern Conference Finals between the Penguins and the Philadelphia Flyers just hours away excitement is building across the area.

Pittsburgh's Mayor Luke Ravenstahl and Allegheny County Executive Dan Onorato have declared today "Black & Gold Day."

Fans can get the cheering off to an early start with a Pens Playoff Rally this afternoon in Market Square. The festivities got going at noon.

The Penguins mascot, Iceburgh, is expected to make an appearance, rally towels are being handed out and music will be featured.

Fans are being urged to wear their black and gold.

Meanwhile, the Pens are expecting a record crowd outside Mellon Arena tonight if the weather cooperates.

The team will once again show the game on a large LCD big screen outside Mellon Arena near the Gate 3 entrance for fans without a ticket inside.

For those fans with tickets to the big game, the Penguins are calling for another "whiteout" in the stands.

The Pens say they want fans to wear white in a show of support like they did for the first playoff game against the New York Rangers. White t-shirts will be given away at the game.

The puck drops tonight at 7:30 p.m.
