While they evaluate their options for wingers at the NHL level, the Penguins continue to fill their roster with two-way contracts.
Today, the Pens signed left wing Brett Sterling to a one-year, two-way contract that will pay him $500,000 if he plays in the NHL next season.
Sterling is a native of Los Angeles, who was drafted in 2003 by the Atlanta Thrashers.
He's a 5-foot-7, 175-pound wing who should provide some solid depth between the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins and the big club.
The 26-year-old Sterling had two goals and two assists in 19 career games with the Thrashers.
Sterling has played most of his career with Atlanta's top farm club, Chicago of the AHL, scoring 144 goals and 263 points in 254 games.
