Mt. Lebanon Police: Teen Jumped In Front Of 'T'

CASTLE SHANNON (KDKA) ― Mt. Lebanon Police say it appears that a local teenager may have tried to kill his former girlfriend before attempting to take his own life by jumping in front of a Port Authority trolley car during rush hour.

According to police, the boy allegedly beat the girl's head with a hammer in a nearby wooded area after she broke up with him earlier in the day. Police say he asked the girl to meet him.

She was able to flee and get help from neighbors. She was taken to Children's Hospital with head injuries.

After allegedly attacking the girl, the boy the apparently jumped in front of the "T." Officials say he suffered life-threatening injuries. He's being treated at Mercy Hospital.

Both teens are students at Mt. Lebanon High School. Their names have not been released.

After the "T" accident, service was shut down in both directions for several hours, but was restored at 8:45 p.m.
