It has been seven months since three Pittsburgh Police officers were shot and killed in the line of duty in Stanton Heights.
One of those officers, Paul Sciullo II, was honored Saturday night at a benefit hockey game at the Shady Side Academy Ice Rink.
Central Catholic Alumni hockey played the Icemen, a group of police officers from around the area.
Officer Sciullo's parents watched the game from the sidelines.
"It's nice to see all of the people that Paul played with and the police officers," said Officer Sciullo's mom, Susan. "He worked with a lot of them. It's just wonderful; it really is."
The hockey game is just one of several events that have been planned in their son's name. And his parents say each one helps in the healing process.
"We just take each day one day at a time. His friends stop by, police officers stop by almost on a daily basis just to check on us," said Officer Sciullo's father, Paul. "There's a lot of good in this world. We just got a Mass card today from Georgia; we don't even know the people. We get stuff everyday from people across the country. There's a lot of good in this country."
Officer Sciullo played ice hockey for Central Catholic High School and Duquesne University. Two years ago, he decided to become a Pittsburgh Police officer.
"My son was in the great brotherhood with Central Catholic and the police department. He loved being a police officer. He died doing something he loved - being a police officer," said Mr. Sciullo.
The proceeds from the benefit game will go to the Paul Sciullo Memorial Fund, which will provide tuition assistance to students at Central Catholic High School.
