Construction Work Coming Soon To Parkway North

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) ― Drivers in the North Hills will be seeing plenty of red - and orange - once a construction project begins on the Parkway North.

On May 27, PennDOT plans to begin preservation work on I-279N between the Route 28 interchange (exit 7) and Camp Horne Road (exit 15).

Phase 1 will close and reconstruct the HOV lanes, especially near McKnight Road. Phase 2 will including road and bridge repairs on the inbound lanes. Phase 3 will focus repairs on the outbound lanes.

"The basic work that folks are going to see are concrete patching at various places where the concrete has deteriorated over the years," PennDOT District 11 Executive Dan Cessna said. "In addition to that, some general maintenance work, joint ceiling and bridge work.

"There's going to be some drainage, some guide rail updates, basically just to improve the road to current standards," he added.

With 110,000 drivers using I-279N daily, detours will be a mess. PennDOT just asks that commuters have patience and leave early for your destination.
