More Road Work Planned For Parkway North

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) ― Last weekend, hundreds, maybe even thousands of drivers were stuck out on the Parkway North in construction-related delays.

PennDOT says they're going to be at it again this weekend, but they're going to try and avoid a repeat by getting an early start.

PennDOT'S Jim Struzzi says there won't be any joint work on I-79 and I-279 which triggered those delays.

"We do apologize to motorists for the inconvenience they suffered, but this weekend, we'll see a lot less roadwork," he said.

The work will start at 10 a.m. Friday – just after the morning rush. The Parkway North inbound will be reduced to one lane from I-79 to Bellevue/West View for concrete patching.

That work will last until 2 p.m. Sunday.

Outbound work will start at 7 p.m. Friday and will go on until 6 p.m. Saturday.

Officials say they're up against the asphalt clock.

"That kind of mix for certain high volume roads like interstates has to be used by October 15 because the temperatures won't allow it to cure accurately or with quality," Struzzi said.

Road crews won't be taking a break for at least a little while longer.

"They still want to try to get a lot of work done this fall before the project wraps up later this year," Struzzi said.
