Few Complaints At Utility Commission Hearing

CRANBERRY (KDKA) ― The state is taking a closer look at the work utility companies did in the aftermath of the remnants of Hurricane Ike.

The State Public Utility Commission's first public hearing into the September power failures heard from electric companies and public officials about the utility companies' response times to restore electricity.

Tens of thousands of people in western Pennsylvania were left in the dark when hurricane-strength winds whipped the area.

Generally, the comments were positive. Two Fox Chapel homeowners complained about power failures on their street despite the fact that the utility cables there are underground.

In the coming weeks, the PUC will issue a report on possible recommendations and policy changes which would improve restoration efforts.

One of those recommendations could focus on getting information out to the public in a timely and factual way.

On Friday afternoon, the PUC will hold its second hearing at the Sheridan in Mars.
