Ozone Action Day Issued Across Area
PITTSBURGH (KDKA) ―
Temperatures are heating up across the area again today.
So officials have issued another Code Orange Ozone Action Day.
The counties affected include: Allegheny, Armstrong, Beaver, Butler, Fayette, Washington and Westmoreland.
The Department of Environmental Protection says fine particulate matter mixed in with the heat and humidity could make it difficult for some to breathe.
So people and businesses are encouraged to save energy and avoid pollution producing activities.
Tips to help keep pollution levels low:
- Ride the bus or carpool
- Avoid burning leaves, trash & other material
- Wash dishes & clothes in full loads
- Save energy don't overcool your home
Meanwhile, local officials are once again opening up local senior centers today for anyone age 60 and older who is looking to cool off.
The centers are:
- South Side "Market House" Senior Center on 12th Street & Bingham (Open July 18 till 7 p.m.)
- Homewood Senior Center on Frankstown Road (Open July 18 till 7 p.m.)
- Sheraden Senior Center on Sherwood Avenue (Open July 18 till 7 p.m.)
- Jewish Community Center on Forbes Avenue (Open July 18 till 6 p.m.
