Man Drowns At Ohiopyle State Park

OHIOPYLE (KDKA) ― A man from Washington drowned in the Youghiogheny River Tuesday after he was swept over the falls at Ohiopyle State Park.

The man, believed to be in his 20s, was with four others.  Park Manager John Hallas says the man and his friends floated down to the main falls and made contact with the buoy line directly above the falls.

"The victim was holding the buoy line more center-channeled than the rest – they were closer to shore - they were able to pull themselves to shore," he said. "The victim, however, lost his grip on the line and flushed over the main falls," he said.

A kayaker rescued the man from the water and EMS workers attempted CPR, but he was pronounced dead at Uniontown Hospital.

The victim's name has not been released.
