Sen. Obama Talks Change In Ohio

DILLONVALE, OH (KDKA) ― A backyard barbecue picnic about 50 miles from Pittsburgh in Dillonvale, Ohio, was the setting for Barack Obama's latest trip to the Ohio Valley and the Democrat said the attacks on him and the failure to talk about the economy were not surprising.

"What they're going to try to do in this election -- and they do it every four years -- is they're going to make you scared of me," Obama said.

Like saying Obama would raise taxes or take away the guns of law-abiding citizens – a refrain echoed by Republican Lynn Swann at a McCain rally last Saturday.

"I will always cling to my faith, and I will always cling to the Second Amendment right to be able to bear arms," Swann said.

"I used to just love Lynn Swann's football -- he was one of my favorite players -- but obviously he hasn't been studying politics the same he was studying his routes," Obama said.

In a one-one-one interview, the Democratic nominee made clear his position on guns.

"I make a solemn commitment that if you are a hunter or sportsman, you are legally bearing arms, you will not lose your firearms under an Obama Administration," Obama said. "The Second Amendment will be protected."

As for Gov. Sara Palin's qualifications to be vice president, Obama was careful.

"I'm going to let the voters make up their minds on that," he said.

"What I know is that she shares a philosophy with John McCain, an economic philosophy that has led to more people unemployed, more poverty, more people without health care, more jobs being shipped overseas," he added.

And Obama laughed off arguments made by McCain and Palin that they could bring change to Washington.

"John McCain by his own admission voted for George Bush's policies and plans 90 percent of time, so I guess if you want 10 percent change then John McCain is your guy," he said.

Now on guns, Obama did say he supports laws to keep guns out of the hands of criminals and he repeated his view that McCain offers just four more years of the same.
