Police Uncover House Of Filth On North Side

NORTH SIDE (KDKA) ― A couple is facing charges after police discovered a house of filth on the North Side.

Police say someone spotted a 3-year-old wandering outside the house at 424 North Taylor Avenue. When officers arrived, they found the child along with a 1-year-old and a 13-year-old.

According to police, the house was filled with heaping trash, rotten ground beef and a strong odor.

Police say the 13-year-old is a mentally-handicapped girl. They say she was wearing a soiled diaper. Because of the clutter, paramedics couldn't get their stretcher up to the second floor and had to help her walk down the stairs.

Two adults, believed to be the grandparents of the one-year-old and three-year-old, will be charged with endangering the welfare of children.

The mother of the two small children was called to take them home. Children, Youth and Family has been called in to investigate. The building inspector will also be notified.
