Local Student Attacked After Fight Over Election

NORTH FAYETTE (KDKA) ― A West Allegheny High School student says a group of kids went to his house and beat him up because of the candidate he supported in the election.

The fight started in a biology class at West Allegheny High School the day after the election and ended at the home of an African American family two days later.

At issue was the election of Barack Obama.

In school, both this student and another student got an in-school suspension for their altercation, but it didn't end there.

The victim and his mother, who did not want to be identified, say a group of teens came to their house to start a fight.

"So then two kids came to my door and one asked for some water. So I went downstairs, said, 'OK,' you know, got him a water and soon as I came by the door, they opened up my door and nine to 10 people … ran into my house and just started jumping," the student tells KDKA.

The victim's mother says she doesn't want this incident to be ignored.

"I feel violated, I feel as though our civil rights were violated and something needs to be done," she said.

The North Fayette Township Police Chief tells KDKA that his investigation determined that six to seven students were involved in the incident, two are likely to be charged and he's asking the Allegheny County District Attorney to determine what charges are warranted and whether the charge of ethnic intimidation is appropriate.
