Apt. Residents Complain Of Unsanitary Conditions

NORTH BRADDOCK (KDKA) ― Several residents who live at the General Braddock Towers on Sixth Street, in North Braddock, are voicing concerns about unsanitary and potentially unsafe conditions.

Kevin Morrison, who lives in a third floor apartment, told us he hasn't been back in his apartment for three weeks, since he returned home one night and discovered it was filled with flies, and maggots.

He blamed the infestation on the death of a man in a fourth floor apartment and Morrison thinks the man's death was unnoticed for at least two weeks.

Morrison said he didn't want any of his furniture, or appliances back, even though the apartment has been treated, and sprayed because of the insects.

Another tenant, Josephine Nevels, said, "It was like the attack of the birds, flies were everywhere… in the kitchen, in the hallway. You open the door and flies were flying in."

A spokesman for the Allegheny County Health Department said that officials there will look into the situation at the Braddock Towers High Rise as early as Friday, if they haven't already.

There's been no reaction yet from the Allegheny County Housing Authority, which operates the 12-story complex.
