Police In North Braddock Probe Deadly Shooting

NORTH BRADDOCK (KDKA) ― Police believe a 17-year-old man found shot to death in North Braddock this morning may have been the victim of a turf war.

A man walking to work discovered the body in a field near the intersection of Bell Avenue and Robinson Street around 7am.

Allegheny County homicide investigators say they believe the victim, Jamal Holyfield, was shot around 12:30am.

Detectives recovered about a dozen shell casings from the scene, but they say they did not find any weapons or drugs on the victim's body.

"We don't know exactly what it's over," Allegheny County Police Assistant Superintendent James Morton told KDKA, "but by all appearances… looked like it was some kind of confrontation here. The victim ran to this open area, to this field trying to avoid the gunshots and he fell in this area."

Detectives are still investigating.
