Vacant Home Torn Down After Fire In Millvale

MILLVALE (KDKA) ― A home was torn down in Millvale this morning after an early morning fire left it teetering in a precarious position.

The fire started around 4:30 a.m. in the 200-block of Siegel Street.

Officials say the flames sparked in a vacant home and at least three nearby buildings were evacuated as a safety precaution.

Neighbor Dennis Fullin said he used to live in the home where the fire started, but now lives in a neighboring residence.

"Very scary; good thing we weren't in there," said Fullin. "The irony is we are not in there anymore, and, you know, you move and this is what happens. If we were in there, it would be a different story."

Firefighters put out the fire and were able to keep it from spreading to other homes.

However, crews at the scene said the fire caused the front wall of the home to give way, knockingĀ it against some power lines.

"We could tell eventually that we thought it was going to collapse. We kept everybody back so nobody would be injured," said Chief Jim Tunstall, of the Millvale Fire Department.

Later in the morning, public works crews were brought in to safely demolish the house.

No injuries were reported and officials continue to search for the cause of the fire.
