Mom Charged After Boy Allegedly Gives Sister Pills

BEAVER FALLS (KDKA) ― Police have charged a Beaver County woman after they say her 3-year-old son may have given prescription medication to his baby sister.

Mia Fisher, 39, of Beaver Falls, told police she and her infant daughter were taking a nap on the couch last month inside her apartment on 6th Avenue in Beaver Falls. When she woke up, she said she noticed her purse had been moved from the top of a freezer to the living room floor.

Fisher told police her son gave two different prescription drugs to his sister, Clonazepan and Amitriptyline.

She said she had recently gotten the prescriptions filled. She said when she noticed the baby wasn't acting "right in her eyes," she ran to a neighbor's apartment and called 911.

When they responded to the apartment, police say they did find a chair up against the freezer.

The 3-year-old boy admitted to taking the purse and playing with the pills but he denied giving them to his sister.

The baby was taken to a nearby hospital for medical attention, but she is expected to be fine.

Officials say the 1-year-old girl did not ingest any of the pills; however, one of them was in her mouth long enough to affect her and require medical attention.

Fisher is charged with one count of endangering the welfare of children.

In an interview with KDKA's Ross Guidotti, Fisher says it was a terrible accident and something that could have happened to any parent.

Meanwhile, the children have been placed in foster care under an order from Beaver County Children and Youth Services.

Stay with KDKA for much more on this developing story.
