Library Evacuated After Incident At Gas Station

McCANDLESS (KDKA) ― The Northland Public Library in McCandless was evacuated this afternoon after an incident at a nearby gas station.

So far, police are not commenting on the incident. But KDKA's Lynne Hayes-Freeland reports that a robbery attempt was foiled.

The owner of the gas station says nothing happened inside the Sunoco station at Cumberland Road and Perry Highway; instead, it started behind it.

Police haven't said exactly what the incident was, but one of the suspects involved apparently left the gas station and went inside the nearby library.

Officials say about 50 people were inside the library at the time they were told to evacuate.

"The officer turned and said, 'Everybody on the computers in the lab area, you need to leave now.' She said to log-out and get your things. So we all exited out of the front of the building," said Lisa Cubellis. "We walked out and there was a gentleman standing there in shorts and a t-shirt and he had his gun unholstered and it was by his side. And I grabbed my daughter and we left the library immediately."

According to our newspartners at the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, three suspects are now in custody and no one was hurt.

The library was reopened a short time later.
