Buchanan Serves Last Day As U.S. Attorney

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) ― Western Pennsylvania will soon have a new U.S. attorney.

Mary Beth Buchanan, who has served the district eight years, announced her resignation several weeks ago.

It becomes effective Tuesday.

On her last day in office, Buchanan says her only regret during her tenure was accepting a plea from Tommy Chong.

Regarding the case against former Allegheny County Coroner Dr. Cyril Wecht, she says she had no regrets.

She offered no hint about future plans saying only she hadn't ruled out public service.

Robert Cessar is expected to serve as acting head of the office until President Barack Obama nominates and the Senate confirms a new attorney.
