ROBINSON TOWNSHIP (KDKA) ― The new Market District grocery store in the Settlers Ridge development in Robinson Township opened its doors to the public this morning.

The official ribbon-cutting ceremony was held at 10 a.m.

The new supermarket is the largest food store in western Pennsylvania at 150,000 square feet.

"This store is a wonderful food utopia," said Rob Borella, a spokesperson for Giant Eagle. "It's for people that truly appreciate food and want to have a destination to celebrate it. So, we have everything from hand-made crepes and roastis to an Asian grill to an on-site cooking school to being the first store in western Pennsylvania to sell beer."

The grand opening celebration features cooking classes and demonstrations, local chefs, food favorites, visiting vendors, cookbook authors as well as culinary stars.

Shoppers seemed to be enjoying the new store this morning.

"I like that it has fresh cooked foods, stuff you can buy and go," said shopper Toni Everetts. "And I like that it has a lot of lunch meats and everything. We didn't see everything yet."

The store is open from 10 a.m. until 9 p.m.
